I made this post yesterday, but never had time to upload it, so it’s 20 hours late. Sorry about that! Anyway, on to the news. Nintendo of Japan released a new Nintendo Direct today, which specifically focused on the 3DS eShop title ‘Flipnote Studio 3D‘, which launched today in Japan. Flipnote Studio 3D will launch on August 1st in Europe, and sometime in early August in North America. You can watch the Flipnote Nintendo Direct here.

The whole video in Japanese, so I didn’t understand any of it, although as the title launches in a weeks time in Europe so we already know a fair amount of information about the title. I’ve taken information from an article that we released after the first Flipnote Studio 3D Nintendo Direct earlier this year. So this is what we know so far:

  • Draw Flipnotes in 3D
  • Use three 3D layers to give your Flipnotes a 3D effect
  • Use 6 diffrent colours on your Flipnotes
  • You can be save your Flipnotes on an SD Card into AVI files so it’s easy to post on social network or video sharing websites
  • 3D Flipnotes are now available now to watch in the 3DS Nintendo eShop
  • It will be released this summer on the 3DS eShop for free
  • More details on the game will be released later this year
  • Flipnote Gallery Friends lets you view your friends videos. This is a free service, which allows you to view and download your friends Flipnotes
  • Flipnote Gallery World is a paid service which lets you can view other peoples Flipnotes. At first, you get a free 30 day trial. You can chose to continue this service for a small fee after this if you wish. If you have Flipnotes that are well rated, you wont have to pay for the service the next month. There will be special days when anybody can view other people videos on Flipnote Gallery World
  • Flipnote Studio DSi videos will be brought over to the 3DS version
  • Flipnote Studio DSi online services will no longer be available to use, but you can still use Flipnote Studio to make your own videos.

There might have been some new information in the Nintendo Direct Mini today, but again, I can’t speak a word of Japanese so I don’t have a clue.

Away from Flipnote Studio, and today is a significant day in for the Wii U in Japan. This is because the console has finally surpassed the 1,000,000 sales figure in the country, a landmark which took 33 weeks to beat. This is slower then then the time the 3DS took to pass 1 Million sales, which was 13 weeks, but was faster then the 38 weeks the PS3 took to get to sell as many consoles. However, it took the Wii U 27 weeks longer to get to 1 Million sales then the consoles predecessor, the Nintendo Wii. It certainly took longer to get to this amount of sales then Nintendo would have wished for, but we can only assume sales will start to pick up soon.

Continuing with sales, and its safe to say the 3DS title Mario & Luigi: Dream Team has had a successful launch week in Japan. The 3DS title which was released in Japan on July 18th with the title ‘Mario & Luigi RPG 4: Dream Adventure’ sold 99,972 copies in its opening week, which means the game tops the Japanese charts for this week. However, it unfortunately seems that after a strong opening week, sales of the Wii U title Pikmin 3 have tailed off, with the game dropping from first to third. This Japanese charts are once again dominated by Nintendo consoles, with 9 3DS Games, 2 Wii U Games and 1 Wii Game. This means that 60% of the top 20 games are on Nintendo platforms. You can see the full games charts below:

  1. (3DS) Mario & Luigi: Dream Team – 99,972 (New)
  2. (3DS) Yokai Watch – 29,102 (82,756)
  3. (Wii U) Pikmin 3 – 28,513 (121,233)
  4. (3DS) Danball Senki W Super Custom – 27,242 (New)
  5. (3DS) Tomodachi Collection: New Life – 26,799 (1,286,646)

  7. (PSV) Toukiden – 12,953 (199,916)
  8. (Wii U) New Super Luigi U – 12,132 (37,014)
  9. (PSP) Toukiden – 11,008 (129,412)
  10. (3DS) Donkey Kong Country Returns 3D – 10,826 (217,148)
  11. (3DS) Animal Crossing: New Leaf – 10,075 (3,335,198)
  12. (3DS) Luigi’s Mansion: Dark Moon – 9,366 (834,392)
  13. (PS3) Dead Island: Riptide – 6,962 (25,423)
  14. (PSP) DanganRonpa: Academy of Hope and High School Students of Despair – 6,447 (97,651)
  15. (PS3) The Last of Us – 6,413 (179,594)
  16. (3DS) Kuma Tomo – 6,019 (28,055)
  17. (Wii) Taiko Drum Master Wii Super Wonderful Edition – 5,630 (522,496)
  18. (PS3) Gundam Breaker – 5,279 (248,098)
  19. (PS3) Final Fantasy XIII-2 Digital Contents Selection – 4,890 (New)
  20. (3DS) Digimon World Re: Digitize Decode – 4,155 (55,107)

Away from games and onto the consoles, and despite the news that Wii U consoles today surpassed 1,000,000 sales in Japan, the figures for the amount of consoles sold this week are particularly underwhelming. Sales neatly halved from last week when Pikmin 3 was released in Japan, falling from ‘22,199’ to ‘14,280’. This means the Wii U sold less consoles then the original 3DS and the Sony PlayStation Vita. You can see the full figures below:

  1. 3DS LL – 41,322 (29,594)
  2. 3DS – 15,703 (13,841)
  3. PlayStation Vita – 14,392 (15,662)
  4. Wii U – 14,280 (22,199)
  5. PlayStation 3 – 11,413 (12,698)
  6. PSP – 5,719 (5,830)
  7. Wii – 1,463 (1,434)
  8. Xbox 360 – 420 (393)

That’s all for today, or yesterday I guess. Sorry if the wording and what not don’t make sense and all that. I was really tired when I wrote this and haven’t really had anytime to spell check the article, so I just released it. Anyway, the article for the 25th July will be out in a couple of hours. Till then.
